As alpaca owners ourselves, we know how important it is to monitor them for parasites. We can assist with giving a fast and accurate indication of the health of your alpaca's gastro internal tract. We work closely with vets to offer you a complete service.
Our faecal worm counts give accurate picture of specific parasites present allowing selection of the most appropriate anthelmintic. Our tests unlike other services out there are species specific for alpacas and samples are tested for all endoparasites, coccidiosis and fluke*.
Alpacas are more likely to die through parasite infestation than any other cause, yet owners often find it difficult to spot the signs of infestation. Parasites don't always present with diarrhoea and Barber Pole worm (H.Contortus) can often produce firmer faecal, as the infestation is in the stomach rather than intestine.
Faecal tests are available for individual alpacas, which is always recommended. We also offer a composite testing service for up to 5 alpacas, which will give you an indication of the parasite status of your herd. This assists in a targeted approach to your worming programme and is more cost effective for larger herds. Additionally we also offer resistance testing and reduction count testing.
We are proud members of the British Alpaca Society and are the unique worm count lab service which offers new members special discounts when they join.
New members get 2 FREE worm counts worth £42 and then 25% OFF additional worm counts that are ordered at the same time. Please get in touch for more information.
You can also find useful articles which we have written for their alpaca magazine about worm counting for your Alpacas.
* Fluke can be detected in faecal counts only when the parasite is in the egg laying stage. Double the amount of sample is required for fluke sedimentation.
Fluke is automatically tested for when sufficient sample is received. If you have a specific fluke concern please contact before sending or note on submission form.
A negative result does not always mean it is not present always check if you are in a fluke area or your grazing is particularly marshy or wet.
